Is the byproduct of a destructive act any less beautiful than the object it originally started out as? No, it isn’t. The action of destruction can be just as, or more, beautiful. By breaking a well crafted glass object, does that experience then become one that anyone can have regardless of station? Can the value of the “destructive” experience outweigh the value of the object?

By taking my craft to an extreme of technical proficiency, I’m trying to explore the social interactions of the viewers. To see if certain values are magnified within the context of the gallery with either positive or negative connotations. The values of being precious, important, fragile, expensive, and beautiful are often the reasons our parents would yell “Don’t touch that!” at us when we were around such objects as children.

It is my intention to create something that is part performance art and part social experiment, and in doing so have the viewer make very deliberate decisions to take the work to it’s completion through the destruction of my own handmade objects.
